Went to the Spit at Southport with coastal engineers Peter Nielsen and Tom Baldock from the School of Engineering. They share a facility on the beach there where they can monitor water pressure from 40-500 metres from the shore. Peter is interested in developing this into an iLab Project. More to follow.

Wednesday August 22, 2007

Missed morning meeting with School of Microbial Sciences Educational Research Unit (SMS ERU) due to heavy traffic. Bummer! To be reconvened at another time.

Had to rush Toby to dentist to check on his front teeth he damaged yesterday. Put back into placed and splinted (braced). Both teeth are now dead and he will lose them over the next 2 years. Second bummer of the day.

Skype session with Phil and Chris again. Problem looks to be in the server configuration. Chris will look at this overnight - might have answer tomorrow morning.

Meet with Ray White again today. Discuss access to licence server from all over campus given our network problems.

Tuesday August 21

Met with ray White from SoE. he is an avid LabView user. SoE has proposed that all future laboratory experiment work (teaching and research) will use LabView in its development. iCampus iLab is well integrated with LabView, so they get remote online experiments virtually for free.

SoE will put up $29K and the Executive Dean of EPSA and UQ iCampus will put up a further $12K to get a UQ campus LabView license for Teaching and Research (not commercial). (Agreed to after Toowong Academy lunch).

Went to Toowong Academy lunch with staff from there and UQ. We are to be joint participants in a grant with MIT and NWU and 10 high schools in the US on development and measurement of lab experiments with high schools. Me to send documents to Toowong for completing and signing, and a UQ letter of support to Mick for signing and return to Phil.

Work with Phil Long and Chris Felknor on fixing the bug in saving clips in XMAS.

Phil reports that we may be involved with MIT in pushing iLabs across India in the next 2 years. US$10 million has been allocated so far to make a start.
